Personal Care

With the rise of e-commerce and social media, consumers have greater access to information and are increasingly informed about the ingredients used in cosmetics products. This increased awareness and the impact of certain ingredients on the environment have led to a growing demand for natural and organic products, and a shift away from traditional microplastics and fossil-based ingredients in personal care products. Cellulose nanocrystals have been studied as a potential additive to help improve personal care products’ performance and sustainability. Here are some examples:

1. Sunscreens: NanoCellX® can be used to enhance natural sun protection agents in sunscreen formulations. They can enhance broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB radiation and have the potential to reduce the amount of synthetic ingredients used in formulations.

2. Shampoo and conditioner: NanoCellX® can be used in shampoos and conditioners to improve their conditioning properties, reduce hair damage, and enhance shine. They can help to form a protective film on the hair, reducing breakage and improving its appearance.

3. Deodorant: NanoCellX® can be used in deodorants as a natural antimicrobial agent, inhibiting the growth of odor-causing bacteria. They can also help to absorb sweat and moisture, reducing body odor.

4. Anti-aging: NanoCellX® can be used in anti-aging cosmetics to improve skin elasticity, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and improve skin texture.

5. Moisturizers: NanoCellX® can be used in moisturizers to enhance skin hydration. They can help to form a protective barrier on the skin, reducing moisture loss and improving the skin’s natural moisture balance.

6. Thickening agents: NanoCellX® can be used as a natural thickening agent in cosmetics, improving their texture and stability. They can enhance the viscosity and gelation properties of the product, resulting in a more desirable texture.

7. Fragrance encapsulation and diffusion: NanoCellX® can be used to encapsulate fragrance compounds, protecting them from degradation and evaporation. The encapsulated fragrance can be released slowly over time, providing a longer-lasting scent. They can also be used to form a barrier around the fragrance droplets, preventing them from coalescing and allowing them to spread more evenly.

8. Glitter: NanoCellX® can be transformed into glitter particles because of their capacity to form structural colours. This makes them an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic glitter, which is a major source of microplastic pollution.

Overall, cellulose nanocrystals have the potential to help personal care products become more sustainable and environment friendly. Research is ongoing to explore their full potential.

Case Study

Nanoverse collaborated with one of its customers to develop a new formulation chassis to replace plastic microbeads in cosmetic products. The customer was seeking a sustainable solution to address the growing concern of plastic pollution and meet the industry’s commitment to a more sustainable future. Nanoverse’s R&D team worked closely with the customer to develop a new formulation using NanoCellX®. The new formulation was successful and allowed the elimination of plastic microbeads. It is now being rolled out globally will help reduce plastic pollution from cosmetic products. This collaboration exemplifies Nanoverse’s commitment to delivering sustainable and innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of its customers and contribute to a more sustainable future.
